One of them is the great Dr. Henry Pym.. What a great character, Mr. Pym is, or was.. </div>
<div>
I have not read his adventures recently, but I do remember the Mr. Pym that I grew up with. He was a resourceful man, lived on his wits and his intellect, and wanted to be a superhero so bad he would go through multiple identities during his career. That wonderful idea to shrink and communicate with ants was fun as hell. Considering that insects have so much bio mass on this Earth, one would think that a man who can control them, would really be one of the most powerful forces around.. How can anyone defeat this guy? Yet they laugh.. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuNCZGDlYwcBKg8w53IP6EvEOQvlDX3wYYae1Uw-uCpK9_gjZwv7O9f73HOBTyK-JJmloL3u2Qqh-Daaq0QWFv5HcWb_Nz-yFbIq1gArHX3xeFdSPYZR1OSzO3qvU2CWkWSjFKqxKHAVY/s1600/AntManMAIL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuNCZGDlYwcBKg8w53IP6EvEOQvlDX3wYYae1Uw-uCpK9_gjZwv7O9f73HOBTyK-JJmloL3u2Qqh-Daaq0QWFv5HcWb_Nz-yFbIq1gArHX3xeFdSPYZR1OSzO3qvU2CWkWSjFKqxKHAVY/s320/AntManMAIL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The other fellow is SCOTT FREE!! aka Mr. Miracle! What a name! One of my all time favorite Kirby creations!</div>
<div>
Books can be written on this wonderful character. His birthright has been stolen from him, he has been forced to live within a system that crushes ordinary humans into dust. Still, Scott is so full of that living will for freedom, that not even Granny Goodness and her hordes can crush him. It is amazing mythology and one that touched me as a young man reading his exploits. I am a huge, Harry Houdini fan, and this was the perfect book for me, the ultimate escape artist, plus Gods fighting for the fate of the Earth. </div>
<div>
Classic Kirby! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

The windows are full of the graphic novel pages, and we had a fun press conference with some very gifted folks!<br />
Take a look at the windows no matter if you are in Europe, Asia, the United States, even Russia, the Ferragamo stores will be having this great showcase of graphic novel, meets fashion.<br />
<span style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Proceeds of comic book sales will benefit "Un Cuore, Un Mondo", a non-profit organization with the aim of promoting and supporting activities directed at helping children suffering from heart disease in Italy and around the world, with particular focus on developing countries, through care, healthcare assistance and charity work. Over seventeen years, "Un Cuore, Un Mondo" has supported more than 2,500 children and set up fourteen projects in twelve countries around the world: Libya, Eritrea, Kenya among many others.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">It is a wonderful cause.</span><br />

<br />
Hail Fellows, Well met!<br />
<br />
Wow, it has been awhile.. So sorry that I been off the world of blog, but so many things kept happening that it was better to sit, concentrate and get the work out.<br />
One of the wonderful projects that I can finally talk about was doing a graphic novel about the life story of Salvatore Ferragamo, the great Italian shoemaker, designer, artist.<br />
<br />
It took about three months or so to write, draw, paint and get it all together. The artwork is now the property, and on display at the Ferragamo museum in, Florence, Italy.<br />
I got back a couple of weeks ago from one of those mythological trips that a person takes once in a lifetime. Met some amazing new people, some wonderful artists, and got to tour, Florence and Bologna in a way that both unique and educational.<br />
<br />
The graphic novel is at all the Ferragamo stores, or should be, by now, and the Ferragamo company has been amazing in that starting this week, all the stores around the world will change their window displays, and put up the pages of the graphic novel, so go out and take a gander.<br />
<br />
Lots more to share, I have a couple of great pics of the Ferragamo Museum show, that I will post later.. no not next year..<br />
But later.<br />
Right now it is all about saying hello to all you artists out there, and getting back to posting every week something fun and new. Lots of painting was done in the last couple of months, so I hope you all enjoy some of the new work.<br />
<br />
Here are some of the interior pages that were done.<br />

Hopefully another couple of weeks and this thing will be done. Here are two illustrations from Frankenstein.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL9zVp-sNtoGMjEFjdi-vZgDwdfwdkRcVjvo1A_PSAt8X3hChy5wx6YnXkotG0OTgmVkDgq-kMQGXF_8b6OzO4UAtUji6jrtWvoPAu2F145xkCijTOVslYlKEkgXk34INKGWitBPdfcxQ/s1600/frankensteinchapter5blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL9zVp-sNtoGMjEFjdi-vZgDwdfwdkRcVjvo1A_PSAt8X3hChy5wx6YnXkotG0OTgmVkDgq-kMQGXF_8b6OzO4UAtUji6jrtWvoPAu2F145xkCijTOVslYlKEkgXk34INKGWitBPdfcxQ/s320/frankensteinchapter5blog.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The first, is the scene after the creature has been created, Victor Frankenstein wanders almost naked through the cold rainy night, aghast at what he has wrought. Lost and scared, he is welcomed by an old friend who appears out of a carriage. One of the great themes in that book is the emptiness that comes after the long creation process. It is one of the reasons I choose that moment to illustrate. That feeling is something that artists, and writers feel first hand. More rain will be added later, right now time to move onward.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXy3O5ps-CJz8hWN5KU-7LXBtVVZD9TVjl4SjmXc2MM2ZPq_H0NQ8Zp7H3BLgqzHu7gGyMcN6JLaiaT00u1CrPqfuPGw8N1td8stfvcA8DRZoC2xtaaWrWwQbLD921RLhPjfTJTDzjwtI/s1600/frankenacrosstheiceblog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXy3O5ps-CJz8hWN5KU-7LXBtVVZD9TVjl4SjmXc2MM2ZPq_H0NQ8Zp7H3BLgqzHu7gGyMcN6JLaiaT00u1CrPqfuPGw8N1td8stfvcA8DRZoC2xtaaWrWwQbLD921RLhPjfTJTDzjwtI/s320/frankenacrosstheiceblog.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The other illustration is after the creature has told his version of events to his creator, Victor Frankenstein. I loved the description in the book where Victor talks about how fast the creature moves over the ice pack. We are so used to the slow moving monster, that we forget that Frankenstein is the first superhuman ever created. He is faster, stronger, smarter than any being on Earth.<br />
<br />
Back to work.<br />
My best to you all.<br />

<br />
Went out with my oils and sat on 187 and St.Nicholas ave, what a place.. it buzzes around with a life of its own at all hours of the day and night. I figure while I am here I should paint some of the Washington Heights area, since I am working on a book on it.<br />
So I sat there, mixing and painting fast while people walked around, and thought I was nuts.. this was just after it had rained, so the clouds were moving west.<br />
Anyway, I realize that oils is not the greatest medium to put in a sketch book, walking around trying to make sure the pages did not stick was a laugh. I am sure I will do that again, but be more prepared.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSdFrS1Wa7wGgegvvcNuy1qKEXdwnwEhKUc8wHbdB-2VeSQuqCBk6Lh1qpGlfrEwPkbAG0hpAA3YXfpZSxXneRnpVT5AFJUDsP9t4eqEJSEYzL0oB4dgIyW2cpzIbsj9Cqf4jIGmcbet8/s1600/clifford%2527smars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSdFrS1Wa7wGgegvvcNuy1qKEXdwnwEhKUc8wHbdB-2VeSQuqCBk6Lh1qpGlfrEwPkbAG0hpAA3YXfpZSxXneRnpVT5AFJUDsP9t4eqEJSEYzL0oB4dgIyW2cpzIbsj9Cqf4jIGmcbet8/s320/clifford%2527smars.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
Acrylics is really the medium for a Clifford Geary illustration, even though many of his illustrations aren't really painted, but to capture that flat abstract sense, Acrylics would be my choice. Then again I am working with oils on Frankenstein and was to lazy to break out all the Acrylics. A fun experiment. But in order to get that feel I would have to wait for it to dry and then hit it again, and who has time for that.. This is as much as I can do wet into wet with oils right now, thought I would share, I can't scan this stuff, I would be cleaning the scanner for days. So excuse the cell phone pic.<br />
Its my lunch time quickie, and now back to Frankenstein.<br />
I cut up and old box that was laying around and it works great for these quick oil experiments.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
I had the great luck in my life of meeting one of the greatest Librarians that has ever lived.<br />
<div>
One day I hope to write a story about her. She worked in PS. 189 at the top of Washington Heights. For some uncanny reason she took a liking to a nutty 8 year old kid who could not stand still, and kept drawing during the library period. and could barely read English. I guess she had two choices, hit me over the head with War and Peace, or feed me science fiction.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To my luck, War and Piece was over our age range and most likely not in the school library. So she gave me a copy of Sparks the Robot dog, it took a while to get the hang of it, but I loved that book. Soon afterwards came a copy of R is for Rocket, and Red Planet by Robert Heinlein. I devoured those books at such a rate that it surprised even me. For an extra treat the books had those amazing black and white illustrations by Clifford Geary that set my mind going. To this day I think he is one of the greatest kids book illustrator of them all.</div>
<div>
When I had devoured all of Heinlein's books, I guess she had figured that my English was good enough to move on to the good stuff.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was like some rabid junkie, going to her every week for a science fiction fix. It got to the point, I was reading so much, she talked to my teacher and I got to spend my lunch time at the library. It was heaven. Away from the kids that wanted to punch the living daylights out of me. I escaped into space. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One day I came in and, resting on her table was a copy of Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles..</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was much tougher than the R is for Rocket books, but Bradbury took me out of the Washington Heights fire escapes and onto the soils of the Red Planet. It took me a while to understand some of the themes he was playing with, lucky for me, I had the best Librarian in the world, who would sit with me and chat over tuna fish sandwiches, the beauty of the Chronicles of the Martians, and Fahrenheit 451.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Today I did without my lunch break and instead did a quick oil sketch for Ray Bradbury.</div>
<div>
He took me away and brought me back, he expanded the mind, which is what writing is best at. The man loved art, music and words, and may he rest in peace.</div>
<div>
Thank you.</div>
<div>
Maybe there is a tuna fish sandwich I can whip up. Just for old times sake.<br />
PS. the painting was done on cardboard that was going to be thrown out, two coats of gesso and it was great to paint on, I actually like that big crease. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Best to all.</div>

Just wanted to share another page that I worked up, and this time I managed to catalog some more extra steps. Again this technique worked for this painting but it might not work on others. I will post in the future some other illustrations that had an entirely different thought process.<br />
Again there is the rough small thumbnail.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr8TnDTF7GxPdOuUlGzYFum7jcoEMfknIWohlGk7tkMv2SimVfutNf8Qo9_SgOiJwp6cO26aGxt6sRZ1p5CiNDgLOVTRoCIFgXdivfBKSo0BsWixPkQo2nc8uEFu8Y0mgbL-SOQihR8uY/s1600/frankensteinmedicaldemo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr8TnDTF7GxPdOuUlGzYFum7jcoEMfknIWohlGk7tkMv2SimVfutNf8Qo9_SgOiJwp6cO26aGxt6sRZ1p5CiNDgLOVTRoCIFgXdivfBKSo0BsWixPkQo2nc8uEFu8Y0mgbL-SOQihR8uY/s320/frankensteinmedicaldemo1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you can see its all big giant shapes, it had to be treated as such because there are so many characters, they have to be thought of us one solid mass. I made some small notes for my brain on the side with the colors that I needed to work with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZaHK6mTDdurjrcRH6co39mCFPWReBhnJ9H2GFSTQWxcYSm-McChaWMGKgmLVqvA0G2ikV6euLEEbp_dBNZa3v49eJQZGti-W0U0k3UNwWRTzpptjy5rOWHU_Csi4iKU6cW-ehQ0dbAec/s1600/frankensteinmedicaldemo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZaHK6mTDdurjrcRH6co39mCFPWReBhnJ9H2GFSTQWxcYSm-McChaWMGKgmLVqvA0G2ikV6euLEEbp_dBNZa3v49eJQZGti-W0U0k3UNwWRTzpptjy5rOWHU_Csi4iKU6cW-ehQ0dbAec/s320/frankensteinmedicaldemo2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next step is the pencils, here I put in a bit more work than usual, again because of the characters that I wanted to catch. I am letting the drawing evolve, putting in tons of stuff that later might change. The important thing running in my head is, how can I get the characters to read as a mass but keep their different traits.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4LVMsbIRgit7Bt8WekoAVjdu8twESv73ZFwPJW7XzXgnDN-HMevtHAdsqq4j_HUco7usiAWr1rlybcxESYYF61p39zEMRR6qXUJ64FmtvefCiVUpPJqIEvQ8NUOKp3qiOpW85WmVju6c/s1600/frankensteinmedicaldemo3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4LVMsbIRgit7Bt8WekoAVjdu8twESv73ZFwPJW7XzXgnDN-HMevtHAdsqq4j_HUco7usiAWr1rlybcxESYYF61p39zEMRR6qXUJ64FmtvefCiVUpPJqIEvQ8NUOKp3qiOpW85WmVju6c/s320/frankensteinmedicaldemo3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the raw umber underpainting, its just enough to keep it loose for me, and tight enough at this stage that I can tell who the faces are, at this point I take a break and walk away.. I find its always good to break and clear the eyes. I put some tape at the sides to clear the borders and I am ready to paint. I am not crazy about that blue tape, but I had run out of the other I used, and it was cheap and laying around. That blue can throw your values off a bit so its good to color correct as I go forward.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizKl_p2C82YmFXEtOjtgMT3gN-JEaW-NB-SbQ7WgZnLytdjxiot2zmywPoE2TLTeLhLmLotZ3uwlM_0pQGPmuAo128v_FtbfV_U9vgV794_au49VPU-3fDGtIbvMr7IMSxCGf7tZJod_g/s1600/frankensteinmedicaldemo4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizKl_p2C82YmFXEtOjtgMT3gN-JEaW-NB-SbQ7WgZnLytdjxiot2zmywPoE2TLTeLhLmLotZ3uwlM_0pQGPmuAo128v_FtbfV_U9vgV794_au49VPU-3fDGtIbvMr7IMSxCGf7tZJod_g/s320/frankensteinmedicaldemo4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now we have the first layer of paint, its all big and loose and the washes are applied lightly at first but with big strokes. My concern is to cover as much as I can right now and get rid of the white. Sometimes I would throw in an entire tone to to this, but in this case I decided to just move on with it. I did not want to sit around and wait for it to dry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I am working wet into wet, and moving forward. Right now, at this stage, one can give up, many times I have done just that. But this is Acrylics its very forgiving, so keep working on it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkQHCMRlVOzBa28F6tvzTaSJK-2ezMg3jfoFJdPlGhKl7Yr8b1VrCs-0tlvKH4NgQOulBszs71rfCkw17-Dy4VuycZ4m8cbsEq4jJ5PfQcvmrKOSq8pVK64YqOTxFvE3JuVghTAAZs_yg/s1600/frankensteinmedicaldemo5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkQHCMRlVOzBa28F6tvzTaSJK-2ezMg3jfoFJdPlGhKl7Yr8b1VrCs-0tlvKH4NgQOulBszs71rfCkw17-Dy4VuycZ4m8cbsEq4jJ5PfQcvmrKOSq8pVK64YqOTxFvE3JuVghTAAZs_yg/s320/frankensteinmedicaldemo5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now here is the fun part, I have painted over things that I took time to draw, in this case the skeleton was bothering me, it took over the picture so I decided to leave it until the end. the same thing happens to the foreground bottles, and the blackboard, again my thinking is to keep it simple. So I concentrate on the figures and let things breathe. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At this point I break and walk away. Much thinking to be done before I can paint again, without thinking.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So finally I decide where the skeleton is going to go by just throwing the paint down. the glasses are moved to the other side. Again the decisions are based on instinct, and making sure the eye has an entrance point. At this point the painting is done, but.. there is more, the final painting will have oils on top, to smooth out some transitions and soften things up a bit. As soon as I do that I will certainly post it. Then again, it might be fun to see it when its all in the book. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope this helps, and more on the way. By the way Victor Frankenstein is the fellow with the bright scarf, I needed a visual hook for the audience to recognize, Victor from far away in other illustrations. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have a wonderful day, its raining in NYC.. again.</div>

Best.</div>

I will take more shots that take every single step into account, but right now here is<br />
breakdown of how I work the page through.<br />
<br />
Now keep in mind, that I like to treat every page differently, what works for one page<br />
might not work for another. I think that is the way my mind works, it would be nice to<br />
have a set way of working, but it would also be a bit boring for me. Sometimes I might<br />
bypass a step or add another, or simple ignore everything and just start with the palette<br />
knife and see where it goes from there.<br />
<br />
So in step one, there is the small thumbnail, basically one of the most important links<br />
in the chain of creation. This little sketch is the atom that everything hangs on. Even when<br />
you want to digress from it, you have a point from where to digress from. So I put a lot of<br />
work in these small roughs. I make notes, of the colors and what works and what doesn't.<br />
Sometimes, after doing that small sketch I put it to the side and work on the painting and not<br />
even look at it. Just to keep it fresh. I figured by that time its ingrained in the head, and in<br />
the hands.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiERX_NxnwnXeU8iRI1ZK6Hp3P1QWbwhCyjYVI27B3yYnJgD3xvR8JBO6CoRLrsVyiUA1HkvEj-5RoBpX-1Ou9dvEKqsuILZBHfeme99wOLWpWsfcw-sTLv-JLHNruFJ4PRuptFqCuT7sA/s1600/FRANKENSTEINDEMO1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiERX_NxnwnXeU8iRI1ZK6Hp3P1QWbwhCyjYVI27B3yYnJgD3xvR8JBO6CoRLrsVyiUA1HkvEj-5RoBpX-1Ou9dvEKqsuILZBHfeme99wOLWpWsfcw-sTLv-JLHNruFJ4PRuptFqCuT7sA/s320/FRANKENSTEINDEMO1.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After this step comes step two, a rough pencil drawing, this is one of the steps</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
that can be very detailed, or very loose, or not at all.. In this case I did a rough</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
pencil just to make sure I get the size of things correct. In comics we do very tight </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
pencils, but when you are working on your own stuff, and doing the inking,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
plus everything else, this will mostly do. Again for this page it was very loose, because </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a clear view of where I wanted to go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU3a61ICoS_yCkgRvwILMBBTeeqrw0vMRsqqf6l5sa1bmK-x_X1tLjd9Ajzj8cg_TnEQu4MHzdL2JWJa0R41q_wMjyh2Lddoy6rxcCeYmRfDBF9s3G2mr2BdSvfdkIhjSS3T3pY3MKE5A/s1600/FRANKENSTEINDEMO2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU3a61ICoS_yCkgRvwILMBBTeeqrw0vMRsqqf6l5sa1bmK-x_X1tLjd9Ajzj8cg_TnEQu4MHzdL2JWJa0R41q_wMjyh2Lddoy6rxcCeYmRfDBF9s3G2mr2BdSvfdkIhjSS3T3pY3MKE5A/s320/FRANKENSTEINDEMO2.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In step three I start to do a quick line drawing in Raw Umber. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like Raw Umber because its sort of this nice undertone color that can be</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
painted over and still be soft. This stage can be very tight if you need it to be</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but again for this page, it was lose and it was mainly to keep the shapes mapped</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
out for the painting. Sometimes I go a bit much with all the shadows and tones, here </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I kept it as a line drawing. India Ink would work just as well, but Raw Umber fits is </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
just as nice and can be graded to give shades.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiacm-Q236Z77N3Y1FMKIdvDppmZ4C4L02T5zXOIbPYY6GPFs51IFN4_QKP14wTbRziUVuAURLozFPquwPfIsbylEEsREwHca11zZmEK4GrOKt3_83mAHakAqRhyphenhyphenloYuKu65DXsuAAg8ac/s1600/FRANKENSTEINDEMO3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiacm-Q236Z77N3Y1FMKIdvDppmZ4C4L02T5zXOIbPYY6GPFs51IFN4_QKP14wTbRziUVuAURLozFPquwPfIsbylEEsREwHca11zZmEK4GrOKt3_83mAHakAqRhyphenhyphenloYuKu65DXsuAAg8ac/s320/FRANKENSTEINDEMO3.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And now we get to the fun part. The painting, big bold strokes </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and then coming in with more careful smaller choices of shapes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of the reasons to keep everything loose at each stage is to</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
give yourself the freedom to explore, one never knows until it is </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
all finished.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP72lhF4sVdrUC7vDJq0BW02cYNNwLpa1MZ4YziDbIDCd3OBTHGguzU1MmbZxD8qYwWySNbedxdFyA9bnuzRjNl2I2nLdQcuHuYXU-Kzpts0yJoyi1-PuxZoQ-rsawfOXkPTEAJA3rsFs/s1600/FRANKENSTEINDEMO4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP72lhF4sVdrUC7vDJq0BW02cYNNwLpa1MZ4YziDbIDCd3OBTHGguzU1MmbZxD8qYwWySNbedxdFyA9bnuzRjNl2I2nLdQcuHuYXU-Kzpts0yJoyi1-PuxZoQ-rsawfOXkPTEAJA3rsFs/s320/FRANKENSTEINDEMO4.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway hope you enjoyed some of this process I know I do. Multiply it by sixty </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and you got yourself a book, kid.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Later I will put up some of the oil studies I was playing with. I wanted to use</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
oils in a project I was doing to give it a very unique look, but that project fell </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
through and I will be using it on this Frankenstein book instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Best to all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Hello Everyone, excuse the very long long delay between posts. Something called the "real world" happen to show up. Its a very long story and one day I will chat about it.<br />
The good news is that I am working on a new project that I think will be an exciting means of getting my graphic novels out much quicker and more direct for everyone.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
One of the crazy things that happened was I had to update my OS, and in doing so, found that my photoshop and illustrator were so old, that the were useless. The side effect of that was that my scanner was not talking to anyone. So now everything is back up and running and soon I can start posting on a regular basis. In the meantime here are some iPhone pics of the project that is currently being worked on.<br />
<br />
It is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein! I am hoping it will have about sixty or more full color illustrations and It should finish it by the end of next month. There are also some children's books that will be coming fast down the line. A project I was working on fell down the tubes, and I have a bit of time on my hands to do this new one.<br />
<br />
I am sorry for taking so long to post, but I like to believe that you guys will not just take off because of some delays.<br />
<br />
Best to you all.<br />
<br />

Plus lots of health to everyone.</div><div><br /></div><div> Back when I was living in L.A I heard that Kerry and Kevin Conran who had done Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow were going to helm John Carter of Mars.</div><div> Now at the time, Rocketo had not been published yet, and me being a John Carter super freak stopped working on Rocketo, and launched myself into the world of Barsoom.</div><div><br /></div><div> I think for about three weeks all I did was paint, sketch, storyboard, and design almost the entire film. I finally did get some great face time with both the brothers and we got to chatting about my sketches and storyboards and tons drawings I did. Sadly nothing came of it. To this day, I never heard back from them, and then the project just dropped off the face of the Earth. As things would go, I got back on Rocketo and was able to create a world of my own.</div><div><br /></div><div> Well, Pixar is jumping on the Barsoom express , and for some reason as fate would have it, I came across one of the CD's with some of that old 2005 artwork. </div><div> </div><div>I did a tremendous amount of work on this project for no reason than, I loved the world that was created. At some point in the future I will find the rest of the CD's with more of the artwork, but here is a small taste of some of the rough sketches and ideas I had way back before Rocketo was ever born.</div><div><br /></div><div>Some of my thinking for Tars is that he is a bit more martian insect than what has been done with him so far. Because he is more insect like he can twist that lower torso around almost 360 so he can fight you with those swords facing forward, while the lower arms fight behind him. I thought it would be visually fun to animate.</div><div><br /></div><div>Carter has that old school belt, something that desert people usually wear, its that giant belt that holds a couple of Radium guns at a time, plus swords. I gave him a sort of Gladiator outfit mixed with all sorts of stuff, but my thinking was to actually give him Superman's colors. As John Carter is really the first Superman only backward.</div><div><br /></div><div> Again this was all my rough first pass at this stuff, and I wish I had worked on it for a couple of months. Then again I wish I had three more arms.. See its better to get what you need, instead of what you wish for.</div><div><br /></div><div> Enjoy and again Happy New Year to everyone.</div><div><br /></div><div>Frank.</div><div> </div>Frank Espinosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05781094849037919355noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468653396019275409.post-45063785184832050262011-12-07T08:37:00.000-08:002011-12-07T09:04:29.635-08:00high tech finger paints<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9NPPEUfl08YsIpOevd78hUmSZVQWk11jpovqec2grib6BrlMHYg36ikb9qSYOwDdju3_z7loj8rRV_7LBheKKuf73FMaXZ5D4fXtvlpuNmJAEm260ng1f8owlRfLQanlLheLA8Ky8-h0/s1600/lunalakewalk.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; My computer was having its DVD drive repaired, so I had a bit of time to draw with the phone. Strange, to draw with the phone.. Dick Tracy himself could not have predicted that one. <div> </div><div>So I got a bunch of drawing Apps and thought I would put each through its paces for a while. Each application has its strong points and its weak, and I should go over in detail each one, but what can one expect for a buck or two? The Rocketo and Luna Lake and the old man, drawings were done with Sketchbook mobile, its a nice app. Great brushes, and very nice control over the layers and colors, although going back and forth between brushes and color is a bit hard on the fingers. I did not do any tight drawings with this program but one can basically draw as tight and as loose as you desire. Its a nice app to play with, again my only complaint is the back and forth, it would be nice to have a more organic way to pick colors and brushes. </div><div><br /></div><div>The other drawings, that have that charcoal feel are doing with the Sketji app.</div><div> Its a great app for those quick and tumble sketches, sadly... no zoom feature, so you can draw anything with any real detail, its all big giant strokes, but the strokes are organic and lovely to look at.</div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway enjoy everyone and have a great day, back to my Image book.</div><div>Frank.</div><div> </div>Frank Espinosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05781094849037919355noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468653396019275409.post-47597660437455733892011-11-24T09:24:00.000-08:002011-11-24T16:31:03.278-08:00HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCn2clSWckyfEXZt6HD5HzA0_2ojmknRaTveBVwc2uRHUyL0iSLRYgnWAHISW39Nijdv_G84vJOmcbRjDRqVOX_zyDFOtis8VGEMx3YdYYo6bybjuIt94LdJwa8qvi8DM0b3UwQzC69fc/s1600/SHADOWFE.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCn2clSWckyfEXZt6HD5HzA0_2ojmknRaTveBVwc2uRHUyL0iSLRYgnWAHISW39Nijdv_G84vJOmcbRjDRqVOX_zyDFOtis8VGEMx3YdYYo6bybjuIt94LdJwa8qvi8DM0b3UwQzC69fc/s320/SHADOWFE.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678724259747373074" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEaIEcrIfLbvinxmdRBiZ7_kMo5UClicZAoVNgVe-gcJotwj_WYMBGeox377iozpv7uSIyzEf7MbwOtUgj9Lq-ALQuAlb_ye95xQclp6ZkLb-UtBCDCcGLIWK4oCzJk44dBNklxf-LL1c/s1600/GIRLPHONE.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEaIEcrIfLbvinxmdRBiZ7_kMo5UClicZAoVNgVe-gcJotwj_WYMBGeox377iozpv7uSIyzEf7MbwOtUgj9Lq-ALQuAlb_ye95xQclp6ZkLb-UtBCDCcGLIWK4oCzJk44dBNklxf-LL1c/s320/GIRLPHONE.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678724260016346306" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim5opz5xmr8Z_h30EkmiZxpKTjDeJctYqZ7JzmveMdxJom4fWBEhZnC-Bw2R2tBVuXx38yo4gw3jnufpfI6pzL5SrrTQ4SBg0TirC5AKK7CH1nnXXfCIKYV2nVm0NmiIaGMJu2LXQAN2c/s1600/JCIPHONE.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim5opz5xmr8Z_h30EkmiZxpKTjDeJctYqZ7JzmveMdxJom4fWBEhZnC-Bw2R2tBVuXx38yo4gw3jnufpfI6pzL5SrrTQ4SBg0TirC5AKK7CH1nnXXfCIKYV2nVm0NmiIaGMJu2LXQAN2c/s320/JCIPHONE.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678615112121619154" /></a><br />Just wanted to wish all of you a great and happy Thanksgiving.<div>Thank you all for taking the time to look around in this insane little blog of twist and turns.</div><div>Playing around with the Iphone this morning and did a quick little sketch of good old John Carter of Mars, and that other character with the laugh.. "There is an APP at the wing of my plane!!"<div><br />Fate finally made me take the plunge. My phone broke down and I had to get a replacement, so I got one of those insane Iphones. Naturally I have now joined the wild horde of app crazy addicts. It happened at a good time, just before my trip to Stanford so I had some good time during the flight to play around with all the gadgets. <div> Couldn't help thinking what Jules Verne would say if he saw a couple of hundred people sitting in the belly of this giant metal bird that was flying at twenty thousand feet. He would look around and see people reading, sleeping, playing games, his mind would explode, then again, he might just say.. " I knew it all along!"</div><div> Imagine Columbus playing with the star app.. or the compass app.. </div><div><br /></div><div>So here I was trying to figure out a way to learn to draw with my giant index finger on this little screen. I have to handed to the designers, because after a while I actually began to understand it a bit.</div><div><br /></div><div> One of my favorite books is Moby Dick, recently it has dawned on my mind to want to illustrate a version of it. In my opinion nothing beats the black and white illustrations done by the master Rockwell Kent. But I wanted to take a different path, while Kent worked in black and white, I want to work with symbols and colors and shapes. The book is all about symbols and metaphors and my drawings would try to take that to the limit. So here are some very early Iphone sketches of Ahab and Queequeg who is my favorite character in the book. As I get that time I will play around more in Melville's wonderful world.</div><div><br /></div><div>And to all the Rocketo fans, I have added some concept art for the Mapping Guild, although in the book its going to be ten times more massive than in this sketch.</div><div>The girl, well she was just fun to draw.</div><div>Enjoy and have a great day everyone.</div><div>Frank.</div><div><br /></div></div>Frank Espinosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05781094849037919355noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468653396019275409.post-82066825953363443232011-11-08T09:54:00.000-08:002011-11-08T10:13:52.469-08:00STANFORD UNIVERSITY<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4JlrgnXmYhbyzYtjEUKLVDnSajlvxT3HdmNQWaX7bsYxT9litChw33SgwaNhk-TApXtswuQoy6ZZn4CrwCg6bFSUouMqUqkWgsC3VFs8rz-1bDPIgJTRTuJwZaditqq8dJ7qcIyG8ZDY/s1600/stanfordtalk.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; I will post more stuff this week.</div><div><br /></div>Frank Espinosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05781094849037919355noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468653396019275409.post-83381174579029129222011-10-07T08:30:00.000-07:002011-10-07T09:00:30.881-07:00Wheww...<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgBFn-cslHogz_9JWN2Mthv_9VdGbA9W1lga-nghE3b2Jt-cQWh8DefTEzK1_U0w1sIHFyLLPESYJnUocGbxjUtHyoCH1aEI1AIARq2mIOONeDZMPonj9G0O-6TGoThVxu3MRzKPi6nGE/s1600/capshow2.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgBFn-cslHogz_9JWN2Mthv_9VdGbA9W1lga-nghE3b2Jt-cQWh8DefTEzK1_U0w1sIHFyLLPESYJnUocGbxjUtHyoCH1aEI1AIARq2mIOONeDZMPonj9G0O-6TGoThVxu3MRzKPi6nGE/s320/capshow2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5660777774446168258" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBk4Byi0FTcBAjRMCoAvHFYn7f_6dorKXpaXQLJwjeH24GiqwMqAQM3qf4APJfywjjMaNTOq0qK5WV_Ygq3tD5ZLUryn9aIzBhpbi7_iMfOqOJe8Lb0RN5jM-JhRa5j0Bt9_JJKm1ObMM/s1600/CAPSHOW1.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 254px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBk4Byi0FTcBAjRMCoAvHFYn7f_6dorKXpaXQLJwjeH24GiqwMqAQM3qf4APJfywjjMaNTOq0qK5WV_Ygq3tD5ZLUryn9aIzBhpbi7_iMfOqOJe8Lb0RN5jM-JhRa5j0Bt9_JJKm1ObMM/s320/CAPSHOW1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5660777770974076306" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOuP_7tWAyK5NIfNL6IPJnqxpA-AG57j3z3bTqJEuSQXiMazahYBB0oWvzkX7wEMCuSQ4wrogGy6MysjA5dLaPW3USW2jIOFgeIEWLMhxvJwguTBupY5p0KwOuFPa03ZB0XeRB2kIVX4c/s1600/thefour.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 294px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOuP_7tWAyK5NIfNL6IPJnqxpA-AG57j3z3bTqJEuSQXiMazahYBB0oWvzkX7wEMCuSQ4wrogGy6MysjA5dLaPW3USW2jIOFgeIEWLMhxvJwguTBupY5p0KwOuFPa03ZB0XeRB2kIVX4c/s320/thefour.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5660777764728626610" /></a><br />What a week. Everything just came down to four days. Four days of nonstop painting.<div>So finally the first book is all finished, and I will be scanning the pages next week. </div><div> Now I can play around a bit, get back to some Rocketo stuff, and put up some more stuff for this blog. </div><div><br /></div><div>Here are two pieces I did for the Kirby show, in N.J tomorrow.. I need to take some really good digital shots of them, hopefully before they sell. Although right now the Cap one might not be going up for sale. It just hits the right spot with me. Blasted paintings, how did artists ever get rid of their work? I do a sketch and I cry when it leaves my hand.</div><div><br /></div><div> The tribute to Jack is special to me, he is one of those artists that not only was a creative genius, but really pushed the enveloped into fine art with his own work. In a way that is why I wanted to take a much different approach. I actually want to do two more pieces that are even more abstract. Who knows, maybe next week.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Cap piece is titled Classic Colors, I was thinking of those old Marvel comics I own, with all those yellows and gray and greens..</div><div>The other piece is called, The Four will save us.. actually I wanted to call it Negative zone superblaam punchout.. maybe I can still work that in.</div><div><br /></div><div> Anyway letting go of the work should be part of the process, but its a hard one to learn, this is why I rarely sell my work, or even do commissions. I fall in love with the pieces. </div><div>Not the art itself, but what that piece taught me. </div><div><br /></div><div>Well, things are slowly heading back to normal and for the next couple of days I am off in the New World of Rocketo.</div><div>Have a great weekend!</div><div>Frank</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Frank Espinosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05781094849037919355noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468653396019275409.post-88429727776330967142011-09-22T12:00:00.001-07:002011-09-22T12:20:19.573-07:00Under the weather...<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKGPir0kV9xb7hitRiKTqfDN4YuwmbrcQjU5_G__hhNRr3__ptwWmFxb44HO-kAHVEgacINFJSivd_b8nXJvAqon8_9kR0QtCoBX4VZeE_EdwnzpJUOFLk2NKjmtxZUiqlapMj2rDnPaY/s1600/DHSKETCH2.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKGPir0kV9xb7hitRiKTqfDN4YuwmbrcQjU5_G__hhNRr3__ptwWmFxb44HO-kAHVEgacINFJSivd_b8nXJvAqon8_9kR0QtCoBX4VZeE_EdwnzpJUOFLk2NKjmtxZUiqlapMj2rDnPaY/s320/DHSKETCH2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5655265903195221186" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPcgOQhl7ZPEYbc3HRTQ_3nxBOXkRvXUcV4y34fGf8xe62cHNKNYVD8k_LquOIrXyod_OgjN7tN9xqFEHUMHncFEnBodDbqZvWveYFyK9KzDqZO99E8J8v903gDoPBiiBZogNtMFgtmzg/s1600/DHSKETCH1.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPcgOQhl7ZPEYbc3HRTQ_3nxBOXkRvXUcV4y34fGf8xe62cHNKNYVD8k_LquOIrXyod_OgjN7tN9xqFEHUMHncFEnBodDbqZvWveYFyK9KzDqZO99E8J8v903gDoPBiiBZogNtMFgtmzg/s320/DHSKETCH1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5655265900484014146" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFBbx2FIGqC94YQuLiVEPUMrJtjLLdN5xUIqodaWa8kcvsSzTCy7pQ1G2tbyq0BCvuFcqVEBDJs7XTASQs67DWvFuW83deKUYvlZ0Iu179xr5O9bJRwX3YwW61CyhZpLrdK-IVUUoQtQo/s1600/DHSKETCH3.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFBbx2FIGqC94YQuLiVEPUMrJtjLLdN5xUIqodaWa8kcvsSzTCy7pQ1G2tbyq0BCvuFcqVEBDJs7XTASQs67DWvFuW83deKUYvlZ0Iu179xr5O9bJRwX3YwW61CyhZpLrdK-IVUUoQtQo/s320/DHSKETCH3.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5655265893636008082" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3bAfZnNKN-M-lwjXn8soKHONauErXkckVARKk4ScrAfHkUk2vF8fC9iJUq-FiJHGG4caE5oLO0FNUtZSUSwXEt9NUgyMQHhZoeRsR8k1FytmM0_jtLjNswnocmTQTzc_DqBOlmlI8o7w/s1600/DHPAGE.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3bAfZnNKN-M-lwjXn8soKHONauErXkckVARKk4ScrAfHkUk2vF8fC9iJUq-FiJHGG4caE5oLO0FNUtZSUSwXEt9NUgyMQHhZoeRsR8k1FytmM0_jtLjNswnocmTQTzc_DqBOlmlI8o7w/s320/DHPAGE.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5655265897368767586" /></a><br />Been under the weather the last bunch of days, some sort of cold/flu thing. Tyson punch.</div><div> Anyway hopefully I can add some new stuff soon, but here is more of the pages for the Image book I am working on.</div><div><br /></div><div>I added some character sketches I did in designing the girl character. You can sort of see the evolution and how it turned out in the finished pages. Or if they don't. </div><div><br /></div><div> The first book has two more pages to go to be finished, so if I could make it to my drawing board, I can knock it out for the weekend.</div><div><br /></div><div> Also I am going to be displaying some Kirby inspired art very soon at a place in N.J I will give more details as the date approaches. If it's not broke, don't fix it. But every once in a while its good to play around with these great modern myths.</div><div> In the mix are some Doc Savage sketches, mostly very rough and just explorations.. Again just playing around, but the mind wanders and it takes me back to all the Doc books I ever read, and how much fun it was to engulf myself in that world.</div><div> So as part of the revision, I was playing around with having Doc, half African American. If my memory serves, Doc was born on a schooner off the coast of Andros Island, which is off the Bahamas. So I played with the idea that here is this African American man in the thirties, hiding his own race, or maybe even not aware, what a fun concept. It adds a whole new level to that great character, something he can struggle with. And there it will stay I guess.</div><div> The other day a friend of mine sent me some funny Aquaman stuff, and it seems like that poor bloke, can't be taken seriously. So I played around with his scale a bit, made him the tallest and the widest of the JLA, as well he should be. That insane pressure would have worked wonders on his half Atlantean frame. </div><div><br /></div><div>Green Lantern was fun to play with, I have not seen the new film, but I think his suit should exist apart from the power of the ring. When the ring power goes out, he will be naked in space, not a smart thing for the Guardians to design. So it should feel more like an alien space suit. Something that can keep him alive if the power goes out, I was thinking the suit would grow around him, while in deep space, freeing the power of the ring and his will power for the task at hand. </div><div><br /></div><div>Flash needs some protection from little dust particles while running at that speed, and he needs to breathe. Again some protection growing out of the wings on his head might be fun to explore. </div><div><br /></div><div>So with all due respect to the great artist and friend, David Williams who is by far the man who has drawn the most Batman revisions I have ever witness, and some of the best Batman, Superman concepts. Here you go.</div><div>Now back to the work at hand.. </div><div>Best to all!</div><div>Frank.</div><div><br /></div>Frank Espinosahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05781094849037919355noreply@blogger.com2
