3D is the craze.. ugh..

Sorry about the long post time but you guys know how things go.
Here are some quick studies I been working on teaching myself the basics of the insane world of 3D modeling. Long way to go with this stuff, its another world to learn from.
I like keeping the little black dots for Spiro. Some things belong simple, like Tintin.. More Rocketo stuff coming soon.
Best to you all.

  1. This is scary, I don't want to see a bastion of 2D beauty cross over to the darkside. Keep your wits about you, Frank!

  2. I can see this getting interesting :) I could see Rocketo being done in a 3D style like Aardmans "Pierce Sisters" http://www.pearcesisters.co.uk/ where you can, to a degree, keep the gestural / mark making texture of Franks work intact.
If I had to see Rocketo go "transmedia", the drawings, dialogue and particularly the way figures are framed always remind me of marionette puppets - I'd love to see Rocketo on the stage.

  4. I have been thinking about this post, Rocketo and 3D for a long time now and came across this that makes me think that just maybe there is a place where 2d can meet 3d successfully "Madagascar, carnet de voyage, extrait..." by Bastien Dubois - http://vimeo.com/10142724

  6. Heres another 3d animation that doesn't look like it. I'm becoming a little more confident that maybe it could be done ... maybe. Matatoro by the Matatoro Team http://vimeo.com/13487624
