Working faster than anything I have ever done before, sort of liberating!
Hopefully another couple of weeks and this thing will be done. Here are two illustrations from Frankenstein.
The first, is the scene after the creature has been created, Victor Frankenstein wanders almost naked through the cold rainy night, aghast at what he has wrought. Lost and scared, he is welcomed by an old friend who appears out of a carriage. One of the great themes in that book is the emptiness that comes after the long creation process. It is one of the reasons I choose that moment to illustrate. That feeling is something that artists, and writers feel first hand. More rain will be added later, right now time to move onward.
The other illustration is after the creature has told his version of events to his creator, Victor Frankenstein. I loved the description in the book where Victor talks about how fast the creature moves over the ice pack. We are so used to the slow moving monster, that we forget that Frankenstein is the first superhuman ever created. He is faster, stronger, smarter than any being on Earth.
Back to work.
My best to you all.
Frank.

Wonderful stuff. Still can't wait for the release. =)
ReplyDeleteI may have missed it, but is this an illustrated republication of Shelley's Frankenstein text or a graphical retelling (e.g. graphic novel)? I'll be happy either way, but I am hoping A LOT of your work is included!
Hello Shane,
ReplyDeleteThis is a straight text version of Shelley's Frankenstein, all of her original text. Its the first of a series of illustrated books, that I will be doing as soon as I finish all the art, I will let you guys know much more about the next one and the release date.
Thanks for the question.
Take care
Frank
ps Shane,
ReplyDeleteI right now its clocking in at over sixty illustrations. All in full color. There might be a bit more when all is said and done, covers, and other special stuff. I will also include some of the layouts that were done, and pre production designs. And it will be extremely affordable much more than a regular comic.
Really looking forward to this! Thanks for updating Frank.
ReplyDeleteFrank,
ReplyDeleteThis is some really amazing looking stuff - can't wait to see this book!
Also I know you probably get tired of this question, but I have to ask, is more Rocketo still on the horizon. To me - a long time comic book lover (approximately 40 years now) Rocketo is one of my favorites of all time. I really am looking forward to more Rocketo exploits so I'm hoping there might be some coming in the near future.
Keep up the great work and hopefully you'll let us know when the Frankenstein books is available.
best,
Justin
Yep, more Rocketo stuff coming!
DeleteBut the Frankenstein will hit first.
Thank you for your patience, Rocketo truly is a labor of love for me, and I am sorry that I take so long, writing and going over things.. But I do want this journey to be his very best.
Best
