Back to the drawing board, sucker.

Funny, how this Rocketo story all works out. I had a completely different idea a year ago. I was pretty sure that the story was going as planned. So I worked up about four solid books worth of stuff, thirty two pages, all drawn, inked and painted... then I saw what was happening. Chaos.. action.. fistfights! The story was going head over heels into an imitation of a bad action film. All the while I was doing the pages, some part of my mind was not responding.. this part of my mind was lying to me, telling me that once I got past that next action scene I could settle into telling the story.
Well after pages of Tigermen fights, and giants exploding, I realized that what I love about Rocketo's world is not just the action, but the gentle moments.. the moments when the characters take shape and form and actually feel like they belong in the world.  So I slowed down.. took a breath.. started over again.. went back to some of the old ideas, threw some old ideas out, and worked on a new script that would highlight the world and the wonderful people in it.
At some point it has to get easy.  Some quick page layouts for the new version of the start of the New World story. Its the first flashback scene, happening just six months before Rocketo loses his parents.
Rocketo and his father Volt Garrison are in the land of the giants. A land were the rocks act like living recorders. Recording every sound and word said on the Island. Volt is on a mission to bring peace to the small ethic clash between the Bullmen and the Birdmen as his son, Rocketo a young boy at this stage sees the entire ceremony. Rocketo guards the flying horse that brought him and his father to the Island.
