There are days that while I work on Rocketo many projects drift through my skull and I wish I had more time and more hands to do them all, this very minute.
After the Rocketo books are all said and done, and for those of you who do not know this: the Rocketo books are four giant Journeys, the first being Journey to the Hidden Sea, the next one Journey to the New World, followed by Journey to the Broken Moon and the last book being Journey to Ultamo.
After the Journey to Ultamo book I would like to dive in head first into a smaller series that resembles Popeye, the Phantom, and Dick Tracy with a dash of Doc Savage and the Shadow, and as always a touch of Moby Dick. I know... it sounds insane. That is where the Belukha: the Ghost Whale comes in. It's a character that lives in a world where Time Bombs have gone off.. literally, blasting different alternate dimensions all over the globe. Where Dinosaurs swim past Ocean Liners, a world where a city full of 1930's pulp heroes land in the middle of Time Square...a place where Atlantis rises from the depths full of Mayan inspired Lizard men, the whole thing is whacky and lots of fun, and I did a short story for Popgun vol 2. These days, I have been expanding the world, building it up, giving it laws and structure, and making it simple, simple, simple.
So here are some Belukha sketches from my rough and tumble mind book.
Part of the charm of the book is that throughout the series I would never show the character without the mask. I always love a good mystery.
E' un misto di Doc savage e Moby Dick… sapete… per bambini.
Ci sono giorni in cui mentre lavoro su Rocketo diversi progetti mi passano per la testa e io vorrei avere più tempo e più mani per farli tutti subito. Dopo che tutti i volumi di Rocketo saranno finiti, e per quelli di voi che non lo sanno: I volumi di Rocketo saranno quattro grandi viaggi, il primo quello nel Mare Nascosto, il successivo il viaggio nel Nuovo Mondo seguito dal Viaggio sulla Luna Frantumata e l'ultimo il Viaggio a Ultamo. Dopo il viaggio a Ultamo vorrei tuffarmi a capofitto in una serie che ricorda Popeye, Phantom e Dick Tracy con un po' di Doc savage e The Shadow e come sempre un tocco di Moby Dick. Lo so… sembra folle. Belukha, il personaggio, vive in un mondo dove sono esplose le bombe temporali..letteralmente, portando diverse dimensioni alternative in varie parti del globo. Un mondo dove i dinosauri nuotano accanto alle navi di linea, dove una città piena di eroi pulp degli anni '30 atterra nel mezzo di Time Square…un posto dove Atlantide sorge dagli abissi piena di uomini lucertola di ispirazione maya, dovrebbe essere divertente e ho fatto una storia breve per Popgun n.2. In questi giorni ho lavorato all'espansione del mondo, costruendolo, dandogli leggi e struttire e rendendolo semplice semplice.
Quindi ecco alcuni sketch di Belukha. Parte del fascino sta nel fatto che non mostrerò mai il personaggio senza la maschera. Amo sempre un buon mistero.
