we salute those...

This Spring I had the amazing experience of going to Italy for a very short time to a Comic book show in Lanciano. The journey was filled with food, more food, followed by food, and then some incredible ruins. There is this small comics shop in Italy called... Italy Comics. Behind the desk is a giant bearded fellow that looks like he just came from running a Gladiator school. Beside the giant, seated on a small chair, is his ever faithful companion, a fellow with the look of having just came down from that extinct volcano where Spartacus hid his followers. Paolo, the giant and Dario, the soldier, are the guardians of all things comic and fantastic in that small store in Roma.
These two maniacs basically kidnapped me and took me on a Journey that Spiro would have been proud of. From Roma to Lanciano, a car ride through the Italian country side filled with ancient forts, rivers, bridges and towns that look like some time machine blew up, scattering time and space, past and present into a landscape filled with the light of the Renaissance.
We arrived at Lanciano, a small town by the coast, and met more friends, who told stories, filled me with food and created memories that will be with me for a very long time. I met some wonderful people, from a bunch of young artists that have so much talent in them it makes one's hair fall out to the many editors, publishers and fellow artists that helped to make the journey so much more than what it was meant to be.
The Journeys of Rocketo Garrison throughout the New World would not mean anything if they were not filled with all the good people that populate that world. So many times we fill adventure stories with Monsters, Cyclopes, and Harpies, and yes we meet many of those in our life, but we also meet Nausicaa, who gives us clothes when we are naked. We meet the old man who gives us shelter and the magic weapon to defend ourselves. We meet the friend who sticks by us until the journey is over. As I work on the New World, these are the thoughts that fill my mind, the good things, the good people, the good food. These inspire and make themselves known bit by bit into the world of Rocketo. Thank you Roma and Lanciano.

Saluti… Italycomics.
Grazie Roma e Lanciano.
